MUS 3166 - Methods of Teaching Choral Music2 cr This course is designed to facilitate the development of skills, techniques, and professional dispositions that are necessary for choral leadership. Students will develop their philosophy of choral music education, develop score study and preparation skills, develop rehearsal technique and conducting skills, learn how to recruit, audition, and retain singers to/for their programs, understand the placement and seating arrangements of choral ensembles, create a repertoire selection rubric, and develop musical assessment strategies appropriate for choral ensembles. Classroom meetings are combined with a minimum of 8 hours of field observation, studies and participation. Observations will take place on and off campus with ensemble music teachers of grades 5 - 12. Prerequisite: MUS 1090 or permission of instructor. Periodically
