Physical Therapy (Castleton+Sage Graduate School 4+3) (DPT)

This program allows students to earn a bachelor's degree at Castleton University and then pursue a Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) at Sage Graduate Schools in Troy, NY.  Qualified Castleton students are provided:

  • Preferred acceptance (on a space available basis) into the Sage Graduate Schools for students who have completed the physical therapy course prerequisites, after initial advisement and interview, and with completed application;
  • Waiver of the Sage Graduate Schools application fee;
  • Early acceptance;
  • Access to Sage advisors to coordinate undergraduate electives and coursework that satisfy the prerequisites in the graduate program.

Specific program requirements:


1. Complete (or be in the progess of completing) a baccalaureate degree program at Castleton


Students may choose from any of Castleton's baccalaureate programs, but we recommend that pre-PT students consider majoring in Biology, Exercise Science, Health Science, or Kinesiology.

2. Prerequisite Courses (37 cr)


These courses must be completed with a GPA of 3.25 or better: BIO 2011, 2012 & 2125, CHE 1041 & 1042, PHY 2110 & 2210

These courses must be completed with grades of C or better: MAT 2021, PSY 1012, PSY 1050

3. Attain an overall GPA of 3.25 or better


Admission to Sage Graduate School:


To qualify for preferred acceptance to the DPT program, students agree to the following:

By August 15* of the year preceding graduation from Castleton:

1. Submit a completed PTCAS application (www.ptcas.org) following the Early Decision Procedures, including:

a. Official transcripts

b. Two (2) letters of recommendation, one of which must be academic

c. Clinical Observation Hours Documentation (minimum 40 hours, preferably in at least 2 settings)

d. Resume

e. Essay

*This date is determined by PTCAS and is subject to change each year. Please visit www.ptcas.org for the most current deadline date.

2. Submit the supplemental document form (DPT Academic and Technical Program Standards Statement) to the PT Department.  Forms can be found at https://www.sage.edu/academics/school-of-health-sciences/occuptional-therapy-programs/occupational-therapy-admission/

3. E-mail the PT Department (sagept@sage.edu) indicating that their application has been submitted to PTCAS according to Castleton's articulation agreement.

Within 30 days of acceptance to Sage:

4. Submit official transcripts from all college institutions attended to the PT Department at the address above.

5. Make enrollment deposit of $300 (non-refundable, but will be applied toward graduate tuition).

Upon graduation from Castleton:

6. Submit final transcripts documenting completion of undergraduate degree and PT program prerequisite courses to the PT Department at the address above.
