Additional Music courses (17 cr):

Note that these courses must be completed with a grade of "C" or better

• complete all of these courses (8 cr):

• MUS 1080 - Global Music 3 cr (also fulfills elective for preK-12 Licensure)
• MUS 2110 - Vocal Pedagogy 2 cr
• MUS 3165 - Methods of Teaching General Music 3 cr (also fulfills elective for preK-12 Licensure)
• MUS 4720 - Senior Recital 0 cr

• and complete 3 of these courses (6 cr):

• MUS 2120 - String Instrument Teaching Methods 2 cr
• MUS 2130 - Woodwind Instrument Teaching Methods 2 cr
• MUS 2140 - Brass Instrument Teaching Methods 2 cr
• MUS 2240 - Percussion Instrument Teaching Methods 2 cr

• and complete 1 of these courses (whichever was NOT taken as part of the BA.MUS requirements) (3 cr):

• MUS 2031 - History of Western Music: Ancient to Baroque 3 cr
• MUS 2032 - History of Western Music: Classical to Modern 3 cr

And complete the requirements for preK-12 licensure (35 cr)

Music Education students must seek preK-12 licensure, focusing their experience partly in elementary and partly in secondary requirements, in consultation with their EDU advisor.  Click here to see the requirements for preK-12 licensure.

(Note that students may substitute  MUS 3166 - Secondary Music Pedagogy-Choral & Instrumental  for EDU 3012 - Secondary Pedagogy )

(Note that Music Education majors fulfill the 6 credits of electives required to earn preK-12 licensure by completing MUS 1080 and MUS 3165)

Credits required for the major: 17 (BM in Music Education) + 43 (BA in Music) + 35 (preK-12 licensure in Education)= 95 cr

And complete the University's Gen Ed requirements
