Students who pursue the Bachelor of Arts in Music with Performance concentration will be able to:
1. Identify fundamental roles of music and performance practice in selected global cultures and historical periods with a special attention to literature appropriate to their primary instrument or voice.
2. Demonstrate technical proficiency and artistry on their primary instrument or voice through performance labs, juries, recitals, and participation in ensembles.
3. Demonstrate proficiency in tonal music theory and musicianship, piano, and conducting.
4. Demonstrate an understanding of appropriate pedagogy for individual studio and ensemble instruction.
5. Demonstrate an understanding of employment and enrichment opportunities within music-related fields.
All students majoring in music must complete the courses listed below, each with a grade of "C" or better.
They must also demonstrate proof of keyboard skills by passing a piano proficiency test administered by the Music Department.
All students wishing to pursue the Performance concentration and take 3000-level Applied Performance courses must complete an audition on their primary instrument. Incoming first-year students are encouraged to complete 2 semesters of 1000-level Applied Music on their primary instrument before completing this audition. Transfer students will audition upon entrance and be placed in the appropriate level of Applied Music/Performance.
