Students who earn a Bachelor of Arts in Musical Theater will be able to:

1. Discuss and analyze productions in terms of thematic concerns, literary qualities, and artistic approaches.

2. Demonstrate a degree of competency in dance, theater, and a musical instrument or voice through public performance.

3. Incorporate input and ideas generated through the collaborative process of production into their own creative work.

4. Present their work for review in a professional manner.

All students majoring in music must complete the courses listed below, each with a grade of "C" or better.

They must also demonstrate proof of keyboard skills by passing a piano proficiency test administered by the Music Department.

Complete the following Music courses (14 cr):

MUS 1041 - Class Piano I 2 cr
MUS 1042 - Class Piano II 2 cr
MUS 1091 - Aural Skills I 2 cr
MUS 1115 - Musical Pit/Vocal 0-1 cr (2 semesters required)
MUS 1120L - Performance Lab 0 cr (must be taken every semester)
MUS 1231 - Music Theory I 3 cr
MUS 2232 - Music Theory II 3 cr
MUS 2192 - Aural Skills II 2 cr

And complete 4 credits in Ensemble participation chosen from:

Chorus: University Chorale (MUS 1210 , MUS 2610 , MUS 3610 , MUS 4210 ) (may count up to 1 cr each semester)
Wind Ensemble (MUS 1220 , MUS 2620 , MUS 3620 , MUS 4620 ) (may count up to 1 cr each semester)
Jazz Ensemble (MUS 1230 , MUS 2630 , MUS 3630 , MUS 4630 ) (may count up to 1 cr each semester)

And complete 4 credits of Applied Music courses (1 cr per semester) (4 cr)

And complete the following Theater courses (16 cr):

THA 1001 - Stage Production 1 cr
THA 1041 - Theater Appreciation 3 cr
THA 2121 - Acting I 3 cr
THA 2122 - Acting II 3 cr
THA 2160 - Musicals 3 cr
THA 3123 - Acting III 3 cr

And complete the following Dance courses (9 cr):

DAN 1040 - Introductory Dance Workshop 3 cr
DAN 2140 - Intermediate Dance Workshop 3 cr
DAN 2730 - Special Topics in Dance 3 cr

(Credits required for the major: 52 cr)

And complete the University's Gen Ed requirements
