Students majoring in Theater Arts take the core Theater courses plus 12 credits of electives, and also select a concentration in Theater Studies (BA.THA.THS), Acting and Directing (BA.THA.ADD), or Technical Theater and Design (BA.THA.TTD).
All students graduating with a degree in Theater Arts should be able to:
- Discuss and analyze productions in terms of thematic concerns, literary qualities, and artistic approaches.
- Demonstrate a high degree of competency in one or more areas of theatrical production such as directing, design, performance, writing, stage management, or production management.
- Utilize materials in appropriate manners to achieve desired effects and communication to an audience.
- Incorporate input and ideas generated through the collaborative process of production into their own creative work.
- Present their work for review in a professional manner consistent with their areas of concentration.

Complete the core courses, and a concentration, and the electives
Core courses in Theater Arts (29 cr):
complete a minimum of 4 semesters of Stage Production (4 cr):
and complete the following courses (21 cr):
and complete 2 of these courses (6 cr):
Choose 1 of these concentrations
Concentration in Theater Studies (15 cr):
Complete 5 of these courses
Concentration in Acting and Directing (15 cr):
Complete 5 of these courses
Concentration in Technical Theater and Design (15 cr):
Complete 5 of these courses
And complete electives in the School of Fine & Performing Arts (12 cr)
Any courses with the following designations: ART, ARH, MUS, THA, DAN. These do not have to be all in the same department.
(Credits required for the major: 58 cr)
The department recommends that students pursuing a Theater Arts degree take additional courses in English, Literature, Communication, and Film Studies, either as electives and/or to satisfy General Education requirements.
