BIO 3265 - Herpetology

4 cr
Amphibians and reptiles are diverse and fascinating groups of animals that have played major roles in evolutionary history and are integral parts of most terrestrial and fresh-water ecosystems.  This course introduces students to the biology of these fascinating animals by examining their evolutionary history, biodiversity, biogeography, foraging behavior, reproduction, ecology, and conservation.  The class will travel to Costa Rica where students can observe great herpetological diversity in a natural setting.  Each student writes an in-depth research paper about a specific group of reptiles or amphibians we are likely to see on the trip and will use their knowledge to teach the rest of the class.  The field trip occurs in the week following commencement and the laboratory fee covers all travel, food, and lodging costs.
